Becoming a Member

When licensed real estate agents join the St. Thomas Board of REALTORS® they also join the State and National Association of REALTORS®. Becoming a REALTOR® gives you access to information in the real estate industry on the local, state and national level. This information is immediately available by accessing the websites of the local (www.stbor.com), and national association at www.realtor.org.

Local membership provides networking opportunities including attending membership meetings, annual Christmas Party and various board events. Membership allows licensed real estate agents to use the term REALTOR®.   REALTOR® is a trademark that tells the public that the agent agrees to abide by the REALTORS® Code of Ethics, which sets a higher standard for members to follow when conducting business. Our local board enforces the Code of Ethics and provides mediation and arbitration for members.

Membership provides access to education opportunities on a local, state and national level including continuing education required by law.  In addition membership provides access to:

  • real estate forms
  • staff to help answer questions and provide guidance.
  • local, state and national governmental affairs advocacy put in place to work with government at all levels to monitor laws that may be restrictive to the real estate industry and private property rights.

Multiple Listing Service (MLS)

Board membership also provides access to the Multiple Listing Service.  The MLS is a database that houses the entire member’s listings, enhances the agent’s ability to list, sell and appraise all property types while working as a contractual agreement among its members for payment of commissions. MLS membership offers offices and agents the opportunity to run data searches on their personal website with the permission of the participant and payment of a nominal fee. The annual MLS fee includes:

  • access to the St. Croix MLS at no additional charge.
  • placement of member’s listings on Realtor.com
